Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to sneak out of the house and see Mike Graff play alongside Mike Daane and Duncan Black. If you haven’t experienced this, you need to. (Or don’t, and leave more room for me at the shows.) You don’t know what you’re missing and I don’t know how to explain it, so here are pretty pictures instead:

The Black Dotz closed out the night. Pinkish Black played, too, in the middle, but I confess getting pulled into conversation and listening to the set from the sidelines. Concertgoer fail. At least I got a few shots of the Dotz, who nailed it:

It’s become quite rare for me to take my camera along to concerts. I confess live music is, and has always been, my very most favorite thing to photograph. I plan to bring my camera along more often again. (I do have a few shots from the later half of 2014 I’ll be sharing soon.)

In case anyone is interested, I shot this night with the Nikon D800 and nothing but a Sigma 28mm 1.8. I enjoy the challenges of being limited to a wide angle. One of my favorite quotes, (which I find translates to life in ways beyond just photography,) has long been Robert Capa’s “If your photographs aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.”
